Our Monthly Featured Photographer for November is Karrot. Well known for the antics of his plush dolls at The Patch, here he shows off his latest doll:

This shoot is called Black on White. A simple theme of a girl in black on a white bed with a white cuddly Gorilla (Well who wouldnt want a cuddly Gorilla, and we have a few here at the Patch). The shoot took place in my Studio / Guest room. Our model, Xiaoli, is a WM Dolls 125cm with the original body design. I use a Canon EOS 700D DSLR with a Canon 18-55mm STM Kit Lens. Lighting was simple room lighting with a Yongnua YN565EX-II Speedlite flash. The flash was set as a slace unit and defused and bounced from the ceiling in all shots to simply add additional light. The onboard flash was set to frigger the slave only. I usually use Paintshop Pro for any post work, but these are all as the Camera took them. With the lower lighting levels i used ISO1600 to keep the shutter speeds at managable rates. All pictures in this shoot were taken freehand, with Image Stabalisation on the lense. - Karrot |

Xiaoli looks lovely
Great series, Karrot. You clearly enjoy your new camera. It shows. Xiaoli looks lovely and her posing is very natural looking.
I also very much appreciate your selection of photos, because you have managed to make it look like as if every photo has a different pose. I am pretty sure that you have left out many other fantastic shots in this series. But by doing so you have added a lot of life to Xiaoli.

Congratulations, Karrot!
Karrot's always had a good eye for composition. Add to that a more realistic doll like Xiaoli, along with a higher-capability DSLR camera, and a feature in Coverdoll was just a matter of time. I think I like the last pic in this series, the one taken from directly above, the most.

I've seen Karrot's photography develop over the last couple of year and he's now become one really good photographer. So much so that I used one of his photos last year for the European meet and I will be again this year.
