Nikki Goes For A Drive
This month I would like to show you the fun I had taking Nikki out for a drive in our car Mitsy. Last year when I took Ally out, we had to detour from where I had wanted to go due to bush fires. This time the roads were open and there was little sign of there having been fires through the forest just a year ago.
After driving for several hours, we had travelled deep into the forest about 350km from home. We were both starting to get hungry and Nikki was getting eager to get out and see and hear the Aussie bush.
We found a pinic area and Nikki made straight for the picnic table ready to eat the sandwiches we picked up on the way.
"HI" ........
"NIKKI-METAL Desu!"
That is Nikki's little dedication to our (my) latest music obsession. NIKKI-METAL Desu translates to
"I am NIKKI-METAL".
We were having a bit of fun with her telling me her metal name and photographing her holding up her "Kitsune". Suddenly one of the locals let us know he was here with an almighty screech followed by an equally loud scream of excitement from Nikki.
"Did that crow make that noise?"
It was neither a crow nor a raven. It was a currawong, to which Nikki took great delight watching it fly to another bush, conituing to let us know of it's existence with it's haunting screech.
My best description of this bird's call is like the screeching of a car tyre put through a music studio "pitch shifter" to increase the wave frequency a couple of octaves. So not a song bird.
We couldn't stay too long, so I got out the sandwiches.
"The bread's a bit dry, but the egg and lettuce is tasty"
"Does the currawong like egg and lettuce sandwiches?"
Although feeding the wildlife is not always a good idea, she looked so happy to see this bird up close. Her first attempt by putting some sandwich on the table failed. He didn't seem to trust getting so close to Nikki. I suggested tossing some on the floor and to stay perfectly still, ........ and stop giggling. Sshhh!
Success!
We still had a long drive ahead to get some more photos so Nikki quickly finished her sandwich and we got back into Mitsy. When I checked to make sure we hadn't left anything behind, I noticed the currawong had gone and so had the other piece of sandwich that was on the table.
Thanks for looking in. Check here next month for part 2 of Nikki's car ride.

I love travel stories. Lots of exciting stuff happens when you are travelling. If it wasn't for your trip I would never have heard of a coocawong, or currywrong, ... or whatever that bird doll is called. Anyway, definitely worth driving 700 km for!
Looking forward to see the sequel next month
